El 27 de octubre de 1881, en el Giornale per i bambini, Pinocho moría ahorcado en una de las ramas de la gran encina en que unos asesinos lo colgaron. Era este el final de Las aventuras de un títere (primera versión del cuento de Carlo Collodi), pero el comienzo de la transformación de Pinocho. Dos años más tarde, Las aventuras de Pinocho apareció entonces como un libro que tiempo después se transformaría en un clásico y sería traducido a distintos idiomas sin que Collodi se enterara de la gran repercusión que tendría su bambinata (niñería), término que él mismo escribió en una carta al editor del diario.
